Auld Lang Syne

Happy Holidays!, originally uploaded by HckySo.

Today is the last calendar day of the year 2007. It's traditional to sing a song today called "Auld Lang Syne." It's a popular song for times like this. It literally means, "Old Long Since" but a better rendering might be "Days Gone By."

This is a very nostalgic time. It's a time to look over our collective shoulders to either lament or rejoice in the passing of time.

For followers of Christ, the calendar is indeed our friend. The turning of the calendar page gives us a sentimental season to celebrate the goodness of our God.

This day, quite frankly, is another great opportunity for us to thank God for His provision, protection, and blessings that we have experienced during the days of 2007.

The writer of Philippians stated it well. "I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all, in view of your participation in the gospel from this day until now. For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus." (Philippians 1:3-6)

Whether or not 2007 was a good year for you personally, there is one thing you must know. God has great things in store for you in the days, weeks, months, and years ahead! Enjoy fully what God has planned for you. As Jeremiah reminds us, "...plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope." (Jeremiah 29:11)

Let me be among the first to say, "Happy New Year!"

Live the Red,

Mark
