Filling God's House with God's Word

Open Bible, originally uploaded by 2 Baby Blue.

In just a few hours, the people of Ironbridge Church will form a human bridge of sorts. It is a bridge of people that will span the length and breadth of God's Word from Genesis to Revelation.

Starting at 7 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time) on Wednesday, November 28th, individuals will read 10-minute portions of the Bible starting with Genesis 1:1. For the next 87 consecutive hours, people will read scripture until we finish with the book of Revelation at about 9:40 a.m. (EST) on Sunday, December 2, 2007.

This is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to celebrate and embrace the entire Word of God in one continuous, unbroken stretch of reading. More than 250 different people have signed up to read the 520 different passages. It's going to be awesome!

I don't expect that you'll want to stay up for 87 consecutive hours to read the Word through from cover to cover. However, you can join us at specific times during our three-and-a-half-day Biblical journey. Click on the Ironbridge Webpage that highlights the Bible Reading Schedule. If you're having your devotional time at a particular time, go to the schedule and see where we'll be reading at that specific moment. Turn to that scripture passage and read along with us for that 10-minute segment. Hey, you might even want to tag along for a longer section if you've got the time. Remember, you can stop in and join us at any time you like!

Thanks to the web, this will truly be a global event. I'll be the leadoff reader at 7:00 p.m. (EST) tonight. I'll start with Genesis 1:1 and read through Genesis 2:25. Just think of it, at the exact same time, somebody in Bangkok, Thailand (12 hours ahead) is just waking up at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday morning. They check the reading schedule and start reading Genesis 1:1 for their morning devotional. So you have two believers, on opposite sides of the world, feasting on the exact same portion of God's Word at exactly the same moment! That is way, way cool.

Why are we doing this? Simple. Because God's Word is one of the most important things in our lives. It introduces us to God's amazing love and His spectacular plan to rescue us!

Our Ironbridge family will be entering into a new Worship Center on Sunday, December 9th. Before we step into this sacred space for the very first worship celebration--we thought it would only be appropriate to "consecrate" the space with the magnificence of God's Word.

Don't stay on the sideline. Get in the game! Join us over the next five days for the journey of a lifetime! Let's travel through the Word of God together for His global glory.

Let's Fill God's House with God's Word.

Live the Red,

Mark

It's a little late, but I am reading a biography of Martin Luther (by Richard Marius), and a quote from the author seems particularly relevant.
"For Luther the scriptural text is always powerfully present, a voice speaking now, a past that lives in God as Augustine found all time embraced in the divine being. It is one reason he emphasizes always the spoken word as the most powerful manifestation of God, for the spoken word is always present, always here and now, always addressed from a living being to living beings."
